Can Cannabinoid Assist in Normalizing Thyroid Function?

By on December 28th, 2018 in Company Info

Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck, just above your collarbone. It is one of your endocrine glands, which make hormones. Thyroid hormones control the rate of many activities in your body. These include how fast you burn calories and how fast your heart beats. All of these activities are your body’s metabolism. 1

In the U.S., an estimated 20 million people have some type of thyroid disease, and up to 60 percent of those people are unaware of their condition. In particular, women are five to eight times more likely than men to experience thyroid issues; this is according to a published American Thyroid Association article. Thyroid issues are very prevalent among Americans, so doctors often prescribe pharmaceutical medications. 2

However, it’s possible that the medication may not work and/or side effects could pop up after taking the medication. Therefore, people are turning to alternative medicine. Several studies suggest CBD’s potential benefits for helping assist with symptoms of thyroid disease and other thyroid issues. 3

Sufferers of thyroid diseases are now seeing benefits from CBD products. Scientists are now working to research the benefits more extensively.

Preliminary research in animal subjects seems to suggest that it may be able to balance out whatever is causing the imbalance — whether you have too many hormones or the other way around.

But this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who knows anything about CBD oil. The substance has a tendency to perform exactly the way the user would want it to, boosting already healthy bodily functions, blocking harmful chemicals and processes, and strengthening parts of the brain that may have lost their functioning along the way.

Scientists have discovered that there are cannabinoid receptors located on cells on the thyroid gland. Evidence suggests that CBD and other cannabinoids can be beneficial for managing the symptoms commonly associated with thyroid disorders, such as pain, depression, dry skin, inflammation, and anxiety.4

Cannabinoid Research Studies:

So far, many restrictions and regulations have made it difficult for researchers to study cannabinoids and their impact (if any) on thyroid disease/disorder. Regardless of minimal human research on this topic, an animal study was conducted in 2002. The 2002 animal study found that CB1 receptors regulate the release of thyroid hormones. It was also found that the administration of cannabinoids influenced the thyroid hormonal activity. 5

Fast forward to 2015 when another National Institute of Health study was performed. This study discovered that cannabinoid receptors could potentially serve as therapeutic targets for both malignant and benign thyroid lesions. 6

How is cannabidiol different from marijuana?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” 7

Our Products

Our full-spectrum hemp extract oil is made from organic industrial hemp which contains only legal trace amounts of THC (less than O.3%). These amounts are so small there is no psychoactive effect. We also offer THC-Free Isolate CBD Oil for an alternative option.

Our products are 3rd party laboratory tested multiple times from time of harvest to shipping.  All of our products are produced from 100% non-GMO Domestic Hemp, grown to organic standards and have been tested for contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals and mold.  Our industry leading 3rd party testing procedure is performed on every final product batch and is critical to confirm accuracy in potency information and to check for residual solvents, terpenes and cannabinoid content. Our Certificates of Analysis are available on our website.

We also use a super critical CO2 method of extraction for all of our CBD Oil Tinctures.  CO2 is a much healthier choice than other potential solvents and is “generally regarded as safe” (GRAS) by the FDA.

If you decide to use CBD products for pain management, be sure to consult with a doctor first to help avoid harmful interactions with your current medications and treatments, along with negative side effects.
